Gratitude

It’s Thanksgiving day in ‘merica.

If you are not familiar with this holiday, its a day to be thankful for what you have, you ungrateful little….Anyway over the last several months some of my favorite podcasters have been talking about gratitude, or the practice of gratitude in mindfulness meditation.

So there are allot of people who stress that when you take the time to sit down and actually appreciate the good things in your life it will make you feel better.

The Stoic in me would just say that hope is the opposite of fear in that they both describe a feeling that is dependent on you losing something. you fear that something will be lost, or you hope something will be gained( or not lost). Happiness then would come from accepting the current situation for what it is and drive on.

I feel like the concept of gratefulness fits in here. right? if you are grateful for the good things in your life and start counting them, as opposed to counting the calamities of your existence, it’s likely to be a positive exercise.

So today, be thankful for what you have, where you are, and who you are with.

Good
