Know the Way Broadly

As I grow older it seems to me that if something is true it will repeat
Not necessarily in a literal since, but  in a figurative way. If it’s a real, true thing I’ll see it represented in another facet of  life

In  Miyamoto Musashi’s “The Book of Five Rings” he is quoted famously as saying

” if you know the way broadly, you will see it in all things”.

The older I get the more I believe this to be true.  There is a pretty good podcast that says this often.
I’ll go out on a limb and say that most people alive today will never see actual combat. You might, practice martial arts, or get into a scuffle at school, but actual, fight for your life, physical combat is probably something that you will not encounter. I will wager that you will encounter some conflict in your life. At some point you will face some difficulty, some struggle. This is where you can apply this knowledge.  Things repeat. A person doesn’t rise to the occasion, they dip to the level of their training.

So what.

Learn your way.

Your way will not always be the same as mine. Just as my way will not be the same as yours. It shouldn’t be. I’m not you, you aren’t me.

But… some things are true. When you see those patterns pay attention.
It’s not easy, and its not always clear in the moment that you’ve seen this before. Sometimes we only learn this afterwards.

No one is perfect but we don’t have to repeat the same mistakes, if we see the way.
